Negocios Now, a national award-winning publication focused on the Hispanic Business Community, announced that it will produce its first “Who’s Who in Hispanic Chicago” special edition and a gala event to celebrate the Hispanic community’s success in the Chicago area.

Candidates will come from a variety of industries including Business, Non-Profits, Media, Cultural & Education, Government and Corporate.  Nominations will come from community members based on criteria that have been established for each category. Nominations can be made on the Negocios Now website at www.negociosnow.com/whoiswho. The deadline for submissions is March 31, 2014, when the selection committee will begin considering nominations.

A gala event will be held Friday, June 20, 2014, at the Chicago Cultural Center during the presentation of the Negocios Now “Who’s Who” special edition.

Members of the selection committee were chosen by Negocios Now based on the success and leadership they have shown in their respective industries, and each of them is deserving of inclusion in the “Who’s Who.” The selection committee includes: Martin Castro, from Castro Synergies; Omar Duque, President and CEO of the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; Neli Vasquez-Rowland, President of A Safe Haven Foundation; Olga Camargo, Managing Director and Partner at Toroso Investments; and Carlos Ponce, Cook County Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and CEO of Resonance Management & Technology Solutions Inc.

The announcement of “Who’s Who in Hispanic Chicago” comes on the heels of a recent report by DePaul University and the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, which suggests that Illinois is home to 70,000 Hispanic business owners who together contribute an estimated $15 billion dollars to the local economy.

“The Hispanic community in Chicago works very hard and deserves to be recognized,” said Clemente Nicado, publisher of Negocios Now. “Since its founding in 2007, Negocios Now has profiled many of its members, and now we want to celebrate them by publishing a special edition of Who’s Who while hosting an annual gala event.”

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said, “Chicago is home to a vibrant and dynamic Latino community that has strengthened our culture for generations through entrepreneurship, civic involvement, and the arts. I commend Clemente Nicado and the Negocios Now team for recognizing the steadfast work of these individuals who continue to enlighten all of us while empowering the Latino community.”

“There is something special about Negocios Now and its publisher Clemente Nicado,” said Jose Marquez, President and CEO of Latinos in Information Sciences and Technology Association. You can call it “CORAZON…” He loves what he does and cares about the business community and people of Chicago.”

U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Javier Palomarez said, “Chicago’s thriving Hispanic business community was proudly showcased at our 2013 USHCC National Convention, where thousands of local entrepreneurs and executives joined to demonstrate the city’s pro-business environment and unstoppable growth. The USHCC is proud of visionary leaders like Clemente Nicado who have been strong advocates of Chicago’s small business community and continue to mainstream the story of the Hispanic entrepreneur.”

According to Juventino Cano, owner of Cano Container, a custom corrugated packaging company with sales in excess of $20 million, the “Who’s Who” special edition is “an excellent idea that will help promote businesses not only in Chicago but also in the suburbs. It shows, once again, the commitment that Negocios Now has to the Latino community,” Cano said.
