jennifer 2We would like to take the time to thank each of you for your continued support of Latinos in Information Sciences and Technology Association and the TechLatino LISTA Nor Cal Emerging tech leaders’ Summit in the beautiful Capitol of California, Sacramento which happened on March31st and April1st.  This year’s ETL Summit Kickoff in Sacramento was truly groundbreaking– it set a new precedence we must now make sure we bring to our other regional ETL Summit events. This year we were joined by over 200 corporate decision makers, CEO, CIO,  Tech Professionals, journalist and business leaders. This was a Latino Tech Ted X experience and we are glad you were part of it.  

Our Workshops and seminars were world class speakers, with some of today’s Technology thought leaders covering everything from Tech Trends, Diversity and Inclusion, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Hadoop Training  and Social Media.   

We also convened for the first time our StartUP/ChowDown where VC and local startups were able to present their business in a sharktank style pitch competition.  StartUp/ Chow Down Luncheon was very successful and will continue to identify Latino/as small tech businesses.

LISTA honered the Kapor Center and Jennifer Arguello for their commitment of increasing the pipeline of Latinos/as in technology in Silicon Valley

Our Latina Leaders Luncheon sponsored by Comcast convened 15 of the most powerful women who are in technology and business who happen to be Latinas in Northern California. The Latinas Tech and Business leaders Luncheon was also addressed by State CIO Carlos Ramos and a special message from Former Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante

CAFÉ CON LECHE BREAKFAST: DOING TECH BUSINESS WITH CALIFORNIA  and CIO TECH TRENDS

At our Emerging Tech Leaders Summit NorCal Welcome “Café con Leche” Breakfast, we were joined by Davood Ghods, Chief Office of Technology Services, who presented on how to do tech business with California and what small business must do to grow.  He was joined by Jim Butler, Chief Procurement Officer of the State of California and Carlos Ramos CIO of California where they discussed opportunities in the state for small businesses to get ahead and a provided a road map to the future of technology in State Government.  During our Tech Leaders Luncheon LISTA presented Carlos Ramos with Government Beacon Award.

Our exciting TechLatino Tech Talk Dr. Art Trejo, Research Analyst,  Brandon Pena CEO BIP Social Media,  Jim Nasr CEO of Armedia and Rafael Coss Big Data Evangelist for HortonWorks who presented their findings and spoke on the importance to Social Media for Small Business, Emotional Intelligence and the Latino Tech Professional, Predictive Analytics for American entrepreneurs and an overview on Hadoop and Big Data.

NATIONAL CIO TECH TRENDS PANEL

We were also joined by Carlos Ramos, CIO of California, Miguel A. Gamiño Jr CIO of San Francisco and other governmental CIOs from the State of California , who discussed Tech Trends in Wearables, Cyber Security, Spectrum, Health Information Technology and Big Data. This panel discussion sponsored by Accenture and covered where we must continue to focus as these items will be where all the growth will happen. BTW: No we won’t see Flying Cars 2015,  but we’ll continue to see advancements in health care technology, wearables, smartphones.

STARUP/CHOWDOWN LUNCHEON

We heard from incoming LISTA Chair Francisco Montero, Managing Partner at  Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth on Net Neutrality, Spectrum and the Internet of things .  Guest speakers included the Undocumented Lawyer Sergio Garcia and Laura I Gomez, Angel, CEO and Founder of Atipica. 

During the second hour we held a shark tank like pitch contest where small Latino tech business presented their business model to Angel Investors

including Deldep Medina, Latino Start Up Alliance and  Steven Lucero Perpetua Partners LLC.

STATE OF THE TECH STATE: CARLOS RAMOS CALIFORNIA STATE CIO

Our State of the Hispanic Tech Business Breakfast Featuring State CIO Carlos Ramos allowed guests the opportunity to hear from the State’s Top Tech leadership on his recent work promoting the growth of Hispanic Tech Businesses in California. Carlos discussed how California state government is leveraging technology to serve Californians in a way that is convenient, efficient, and economical.

Carlos spoke on the California Information Technology Strategic Plan and provided his  vision to guide the strategic objectives of California’s technology community leaders to enhance the reliability and efficiency of state programs and improve business operations and services to the greatest number of Californians. This plan encouraged the state to focus on serving the needs of our 21st century constituents by delivering results, while responding to critical issues facing the state’s information technology community.

His goal is to make certain government is focused on the ways in which they may serve 21st century constituents and have the greatest impact on Californians while achieving  it in the most efficient way possible.

 

LATINAS TECH AND BUSINESS LEADERS LUNCHEON  

LISTA Tech and Business Leaders Luncheon is on the Road in Sacramento, where we  honored 10 Dynamic, Powerful and Engaging Latinas provided a revealing, and open conversation on the experiences and challenges of Latinas in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. These leaders of their community featured have surpassed obstacles and have ultimately established themselves as pioneers and leaders in their fields and industries. The women of excellence offer their insight, shared their stories to make sure that the next generation can achieve more.
