Latinos in Information Sciences and Technology Association Receives Atlanta’s Highest Mayoral Award for Leadership (LISTA)

Atlanta, Ga.  – Jose Marquez, president and CEO of the Latinos in Information Sciences and Technology Association (LISTA) was awarded The Phoenix Award by Atlanta’s Mayor Kasim Reed at the kickoff of LISTA’s Tech- Latino Leadership Luncheon 9th Year Anniversary Awards Gala at the Laudermilk Center on April 28th 2010. The Phoenix Award, is Atlanta’s highest mayoral honor.

“Jose Marquez and the work of Latinos in Information Sciences and Technology Association has done in the short history it has in Georgia is to be commended,” Mayor Reed remarked. They have shown commitment to our community. Bringing a fresh energy, of humility and collaboration to our state.”

The LISTA Tech- Latino leadership Luncheon drew over 250 attendees including many state and local government officials, gubernatorial candidates as well as prominent business and community leaders. Hosted by Rick Sanchez of CNN and Lourdes Diaz Senior Director of Sodexo, both provided  remarks about the importance of the Hispanic in the state of Georgia and the key role we play as small business employers, particularly during difficult economic times.

“It is was truly heartwarming how Georgia has accepted LISTA into its arms. I am inspired by the people we honored at this luncheon and to receive this award from the Mayor made all the more special,” said Marquez. It was an honor to recognized Johns Creek City Council and Founder Ivan Figueroa, State Representative Tony Sellier, Gwinnett County Alliance Executive Director Leticia Pastrana, and Monica Maldonado, President Interprint Communications with the Campeones de Nuestra Comunidad award. “Through these latino leaders I have seen first-hand, dedication, commitment and sacrifice for the Latino community, I am honored to be part of such a group, who are providing Georgia with  leadership to small businesses and our community as a whole.”
